Homecoming is a time to show school spirit and celebrate the people of Augusta University. We had the opportunity to speak with the former Homecoming Duchess and have her tell us a little bit about herself.
Nyhirah Higgenbottom is originally from Savannah, GA. She is a nursing major and aspires to work as a geriatrics nurse.
She has been a volunteer for St. Joseph Hospice since September 2019. “I want to work with the older population. I always new I wanted to be a nurse. I love taking care of people.” Before COVID-19 she was visiting patients and assisting staff with admissions, death packets, and patient check-ins where she made sure they had all of their medication.
Nyhirah is the president of the “She Blossoms Organization” at Augusta University. This groups focus is empowering women. ” We host events, do a lot of community service, focus on mental health, and positive things!”
She is also a member of “Black Student Nurses Society” and “Pre-nurses Society”. “I love being involved on campus.”
Nyhirah was crowned the 2020 Homecoming Duchess. “I applied to be duchess and see what it was about. I made it!”
When she is not studying or volunteering, Nyhirah loves bowling and doing arts and crafts!
